Nixten & Pedigree Nix

The Nix family is comprised of three species - Nix, Pedigree Nix, and Sugarnix. Their name comes from to nick, which means to steal in Australian/British slang.

Nix

Nix, or Nixten, are agile, cunning mammals that love to steal and collect things. Each individual nix has a preferred theme or type to the objects they collect, such as blue objects, lanterns, or cutlery. Tame Nix will often present their owner with “gifts” (which will be non-stolen if they’re properly trained) Once a nix forms a bond with someone, it’s loyal for life.

Their long tails can support their own body weight, and the tip of their tails emit telekinetic energy up to a radius of six inches. Nix can use this ability to manipulate objects at the end of their tails (such as a glove) as extensions of their bodies. Some have even been known to use this ability to open locks through the other side of doors and windows (homeowners in cities with nix populations must have anti-nix locks installed)

Nixten have reflective spots they use to communicate - their inner ears are always reflective, and they can discreetly flash messages to other nix from across rooftops. Their pupils, nose patches and eyebrow markings are also reflective.

Pedigree Nix

Pedigree nix are a subspecies of Nixten, and are larger and more domesticated. Pedigree are generally very easy to train, and will rarely steal, unlike other nix subspecies. Like nixten, they are a deeply loyal species and are popular as palace guard creatures.

There are two main pedigree nix body types - Alpha and Beta.

Alpha nix have long legs, and great agility, speed & physical strength. They are the most popular type of pedigree nix because they friendly with everyone and are the easiest to train.

Beta nix have a long, slinky body and short legs. They have stronger psychic powers than alphas, and have the strongest powers in the entire Nix species family. They're shyer than alphas and are known for being fussy about everything from their food, to bedding, and everything in between.
